What does Thin Content Mean and How to Resolve the Issue

What does Thin Content Mean and How to Resolve the Issue

When it comes to thin content, it is one of the biggest issues that many websites tend to have these days. And what does thin content actually mean? Thin content is an article page, blog post, audio or video file, or pretty much any other form of content that offers a poor explanation of what it is all about and doesn’t attempt to offer any helpful information. Simply put, if you have a website that is completely filled with poor content, you should do something about it before it’s too late.

In the world of online marketing, having a website that is filled with poor content is never a good idea. Not only does thin content hurt your search engine optimization, but it also turns away a significant number of potential customers. That being said, if you would like to learn more about what thin content really is, how to identify it, and how to resolve the issue, you have come to the right place!

How to Know if your Content is Too Thin

Before you even think of fixing the problem, you first need to know what the problem really is. This is something that Google can help you with. You see, sometimes, Google will let you know that your content is too thin. Also, there are some search engines out there that may actually penalize you for using thin content, especially if you use it frequently. More often than not, you will have to find the problem on your own.

In other words, you might not know that your content is too thin until you go back and check it one more time. But when you know what to look for, you can easily identify thin content on your website. This provides you with the ability to resolve the issue right away. With this in mind, here are some things that you need to know if you want to be able to determine whether or not you have thin content on your website!

You have Doorway Pages

Doorway pages are also known as bridge pages. And what exactly are these doorway pages? Bridge pages (or doorway pages) are pages that are submitted to search engines to increase the ranking for either a word or a phrase. However, the main purpose of doorway pages is to attract visitors to a website, not to inform them. But having doorway pages on your website might not be a really good idea, and the main reason why is because these pages often get penalized by search engines.

And more often than not, when a doorway page gets penalized, the whole website gets penalized as well. This, of course, gives the website a negative reputation with users, which usually ends up resulting in sales being driven away, and that is never a good thing. With this in mind, if you want to attract more visitors to your website, you should try and focus on a specific keyword and write about it in-depth.

Your Website is Filled with Affiliate Pages

Affiliate links and affiliate pages on their own are not that bad. However, both affiliate links and affiliate pages can hurt your website if they don’t contain useful information that your website visitors would actually want to see. The main problem that some affiliate pages have lies in the fact that some of them have generic or copied content with links that lead to low-quality websites. These affiliate pages can easily destroy a website in terms of search engine results pages.

Your Website uses Content from Other Websites

If you are copying other people’s content and pasting it to your own website pages, your website will have a hard time when it comes to ranking well in search engines. The main reason for this is because many (if not all) search engines can tell when there is duplicate content on a website. This is simply known as duplicate content, and it should be avoided at all times.

While it is possible to duplicate a huge amount of text from another website, keep in mind that most duplicate content is nothing but low-quality, thin text. Also, low-quality guest posts can be a piece of duplicate content too. This is especially true if a guest post author decides to repost the exact same piece of content across two or more blogs or websites. That being said, you need to make sure that the words on your website are your own. This is a simple but effective way to make sure that you are providing your website visitors with quality information.

The Majority of Your Website is Made Up of Short Pages

Is the majority of your website made up of pages that contain 250 words or less? If it is, then you should make some changes right now. While it is true that most of your website pages don’t need to be very long, but at least some of them should provide your website visitors with an in-depth look at your business, industry, and other related subjects. When it comes to a healthy length page, it is usually around 1000 words or more. A thousand words is usually more than enough to talk about common questions and issues that your industry has conclusively.

How to Add Value to Your Content

Even if your website does contain some thin content, there are always some things that you can do to give your website visitors the best browsing experience. For example, it is very important for you to get rid of all the duplicate content that your website may have. You should also try and get rid of all the spammy pages on your website. Once you have done that, try and focus all of your attention on adding valuable information to your website.

Think about the questions that both your customers and your friends ask you about your business. Try and answer these questions thoroughly, and you should see the results in no time.
